I'm currently desiring a 61cm Caadx, which as far as I can see is the biggest frame it comes in.

Current steed is a 63cm CAAD9 which I think fits me, do you think I'll find the 61cm frame too small?

I'm a smidgin under six two and ride a 58 X105 and it's far from cramped. I reckon the 61 will be ideal for you.

  • I'm 6'3 and ride a 63cm GT and a 60cm ribble - the latter is shocking (former's great) and I need to run a size test to change it - either that or get a new winter frame. A new by tempts me but the local exchequer doesnt see it that way!

  • Gonna have quite a few inches of seat post there. my 6'4 bro is riding the largest felt i think an it still looks small. Go for a test ride for sure.

    I'm 6'3" and ride a 60 and a 58. Both seem OK.

I'm 6'2" and ride a 60cm Kona Jake. The bike shop told me I should be on a 58cm at most. I agree with the coments about trying it first.
  • to confirm the tall dude is riding a 61 with a large chunk of seatpin. More than manageable though.

    Cheers all.

Well, I've ordered it now (got the 105 version, woo hoo!), can't really ride it on the road and then return iy (cycle to work home delivery only), might borrow a turbo trainer and give it a spin indoors.

Was doubly worried cos I understand the bottom bracket is high from the ground on cyclocross bikes.

Can't wait to chunder down that canal!

Bit late to the party but i'm 6'4" and ride a 61cm road frame and a 58cm cross frame. No problems to report and i find the cross bike very comfortable at that size.

Please let me know how you get on. Looking at getting a CX for my commute (road and path).
  • I'm just over 6'1" and tried both the 58 and 56 and ended up getting the 56. It is my first drop bar bike so may not be the best guide mind. Oh and its a caadx.

    I got it.

    Wow wow wow and wow.

Perfect fit, stunning bike, got it delivered to work and rode it home, stopping off to buy a proper seat post and miraculously resisting the urge to splurge 100 squid on pedals as well.

I feel more upright than on the CAAD9 but I figure that's what's supposed to happen, I felt I could ride up walls on it, whilst the CAAD9 wants to shoot forward from underneath me (I'm sure it thinks I'm too slow and it only emits truly happy vibes when I'm doing 30 on the Embankment), the CAADX feels like it wants to sit back and just hit some lumps.

Slight niggle is that my inner thighs contact the seat post a bit more than on me CAAD9, but again I guess that's down to the geometry, and riding along with what looks like a motorbike wheel sticking out the front of me bike is going to take a big of getting used to...

It was dark, but I wanted to try an bit of rough stuff so rode a bit further past my route to hit the canal. Initial worries of being killed by an axe wielding manic soon dispelled as I realised I would able to outrun them by bombing along on the rough stuff in a way that attempted on me CAAD9 would've have me having an early (cold) bath.

It took it all in its stride with frankly miraculous handling, I knew the ground was very rough, and could fell the bike shaking around, but somehow this wasn't transferred to me; pretty freaky for a bike with an anti suspension alu frame (other than some fat tyes).

    So, some moral dilemmas now:

Do I switch the 105 gear on the CADDX to with the Tiagra stuff on me CAAD9.

Do I replace the carbon fork (bit squiffy about carbon me)

Swap the wheels out now before I break them (they look OK, but not tough enough for me).

Panniers for a bit of touring...

Cross Bikes are Awesome! They seem to feel so chuckable and can take anything you chuck at them. You should get to your nearest trail centre and embarrass some mountain bikers as you speed by! Great fun!

You're right about the hoops - the one grump I have about the machine. Major flexing under hard power equals brake rub. Let me know what you upgrade to and how it goes.

I've got these on my other bike, they're a bit heavy but stiff as f**k, £200 for a pair with 105 hubs hand built from Harry Rowland, so will be looking to put these on the CAADX too.
