I did actually, they were for Goodyear Eagle Fi assymetric 2 in 225/45/ZR17 and black circle was actually a bit dearer!

I've been using Vredstein's sporttracs and/or quadtracs for a few years, give great wear with fantastic grip in rain or shine particularly for heavy cars as they have extra strenghtening in the sidewall. Found them better than bridgestone and a lot cheaper than Michelin.

Winter tyres don't actually work out that much more expensive, you're only ever wearing out one set of tyres at a time after all, so buy winter and summer sets and you pay for two sets but they last twice as long.

A set of steel wheels for £60, get your local tyre place to fit the winters to the steels while they put your summer tyres on your alloy/standard wheels. It helps if you've got somewhere to keep the summer tyres in winter, and the winter tyres in summer.

It depends on your 'necessary' driving though. I've got a 15 mile drive down country roads to get to work. The roads can be quite quiet, and frost/ice/snow is more of a problem than in town.

My winter tyres feel more 'wandery' in the corners than my summer tyres when it's dry, but they're a lot better when it's cold and/or wet.

Have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying driving like a bellend in the rain snow and mud with my Hankook winter tyres... Definately not as grippy in the dry, the front end pushes wide in corners much more readily but in the wet they're a big improvement and in snow and mud they're like cheating. Course, not everyone will get as much benefit from that.

Always bought performance tyres, but now i have a runaround i went for the best recommendation on blackcircles.

Hankook optimo k715 i think, good all rounders they just grip in all conditions, wet dry yet to test them in the white stuff, and they wear very well.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • I've now replaced all my four long long wearing but rock hard less grip in wet, plenty if it's stonkin hot sunny Pirelli Zero's with Toyo Proxes T1R, softer, much improved grip especially from the off on damp roads and quieter too. Reviews all give very good wet weather performance too.
Would like to try to the original Goodyear Eagle F1's but don't think they make that exact version anymore.
£84 for my toyos each, PZero are well over £100.
