Upgrading Carerra Subway 1

Hi
I am new to riding mountain bike trails, but starting to ride regularly as my 8 year old son is very kean! Just recently upgraded him to a new Islabike Beinn 26 and now we are riding much quicker and better lines/technique etc and doing blue/ easy red trails. Genuinely got the bug and we go most weekends
I have a Carrera subway 1 but changed the tyres over to some Maxxis Ignitors, but now beginning to wonder about upgrading the bike. Is it worth getting a decent sus fork (maybe initially with v brake mounts) for it? Always liked the frame on the bike as its fairly light (7005 alloy) but as I am such a newbie not sure which way to go or whether I would be better off spending £500/600 on a new entry bike.
Advice would be much appreciated
Cheers

The Carrera's are a sought after bike (for what they are designed for!) so just sell it and buy an MTB, why not check out classifieds or ebay and look for a reasonable used MTB, about £200 will pick you up a bike that was £600 3 years ago!
