Guys,

Looks like I may be living in Tunbridge Wells in the near future so my potential commute will change from Hither Green to The City to Tunbridge Wells to The City.

I know it's about 40 miles, so will probably only do it twice a week, and no more than once a day.

Can anybody recommend a decent route between RTW and London?

Cheers,
FJ

That's going to be what, a three to three and a half hour run? Either you'll be getting up at four in the morning or getting home at nine......some times it's just too far dude. Get a motorcycle!

Or take a train to HG and cycle the old route in :)

I might be able to give you access to a garage a couple of mins walk from the station...

Thanks for the offer James. Not sure any of the Tunbridge trains stop at HG though.

I have seen a little studio flat in Manor Park which could be an option!! :)

Suppose I could train it to Orpington and go from there...?

  • That would still be something like a 16 mile ride, on top of a half-hour train ride. Once you're in Orpington I think the rest of the rest of the train journey would be pretty quick as it's probably fast to London bridge from there, so it wouldn't be the most efficient way of getting in.

Maybe you could bike to Orpington (or perhaps Sevenoaks) and get the train the rest of the way? The cycling would probably be more pleasant...

Bring a portable turbo and set it up on the train.

Didn't the fist stage of the Tour go through Royal Tunbridge Wells on its way to Canterbury? You could reverse that route and sprint to the end of the Mall each morning, with a celebratory double-fisted salute under Admiralty Arch.

What's with all the fisting Gussio? I thought that was something entirely different...

Nothing wrong with a punch entry....
  • I rode City to Hadlow one evening and back the following morning.... its a fairly hilly route with a couple of Cat 5 grades and that took me 2h each way... its doable but hard work, but a pretty route...

Cheers for that OB, looks doable.

At least it will be good training for the Dartford Classic in June. :)
