Help with getting crank arm off

My Boardman FS has a Truvativ Firex 3.2 GXP chainset and the bottom bracket is getting rough with a bit of play. I tried to remove the crank arm but I couldn't get it off after I took out the nuts. Are they any ways of getting this off without the proper tool? I've done some searches and seen there is a crank remover tool, but so many types. I don't mind ordering the tool now, but I want to make sure I get the correct one.
Here's some picks of what I've got.
Can anyone point me to the correct crank remover tool (or maybe a complete tool set) and any tips of doing this without the tool?

put it all back together and then undo the self extracting bolt."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

After a bit of thinking, I'm guessing then the inner nut pushes against the outer one to pull off the arm. Right?
The outer one was loose which was luck as I don't have a allen key big enough for that and it came out with my fingers only.0 -
Yep, that is how it works!0

Thanks very much. Easy when you know how it works. Just took the crank off in the dark.
How do you get the other side off as this is hollow? Do you just knock the shaft through the bottom bracket?
Also, I've now got half the Truvativ GXP bottom bracket in front of me and it's got mud and water in it and the bearing is rough. I assume I can prise out the bearings and just replace these? Trouble is that the number has worn off the out edge. But then I guess I need new sealing rings (as the dirt has got in) so can you buy these also?0 -
yes push.
not serviceable just replace with another GXP compatible one."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks for all the help here. I have a load of other questions, but continued this in another thread in a more suitable place.0
