Does anyone have any problems with chafing from a larger saddle bag? I currently have a small Fizik bag that is fine, but i'm looking at this bigger one...

... as i'm fed up of carrying my waterproof jacket in my pockets, and i'm a bugger for taking more kit than i need. I usually end up with the back of my jersey nearly touching my back wheel (well, maybe not that bad but you get my point).

I hadn't even considered the chafing issue until i read the blurb for one bag that has been 'designed to reduce chafing'. And comments appreciated.

  • Nope, never had problems from the saddle bag. But that Specialized one is HUGE!!! How much gear do you need? I use a Topeak Aero wedge which is big enough for jacket, 2 tyre levers, patches, tube, disposable gloves, multi-tool, spoke wrench, chain tool and spare links, cards+cash, and fone. It's a squeeze, but I reckon if you have more space you'll just pack it with stuff you don't need. Be ruthless with how much you pack!

Is that the large wedge? Cuz mine's a medium, and i couldn't fit all that in it...

Actually ended up buying the topeak aero one, thanks. Went for a large with a view to exchanging for a medium if its too big. As long as i can fit my jacket, tube, levers, and repair kit in i'm happy, but a bit of extra space for phone, keys, money, food etc would be nice, although i don't mind keeping them in my jersey. Thanks for the replies. :D
  • Use one of your bottle mounts and put some of your gear in a bottle.
Saves trying to get stuff out of a saddle bag when it's jammed in there.

I have the small Fizik and larger one with the ICS clips, which move the bags back from the sadlle. I then use a small bugee cord to attach my waterproof to the bottom of the saddle. Just another thought

I had thought of that after reading an unrelated post on here, but the problem is that i use 2 bottles on longer rides so it's not really suitable for me

It's a medium. There's no room for anything else though!
