Can anybody tell me what magazine from recently that showed you how to update fork on EX 8.
I remember reading the mag and it said swap front fork from 120mm to 140mm and shorten stem.
What fork was it and would it be worth doing?
I want to go from quick release to 15mm bolt thru aswell.

Why do you want a fork with more travel ?? are you bottoming out all the time ? If so a longer travel bike such as a remedy may be the better option....
Anyway, any 140mm will fit as long as it has a tapered steerer....
Putting a longer travel fork on may invalidate any warranty and may affect the balance of the bike.0 -
Not bought one yet but had a demo at glentress at weekend.
Iv tried the 2012 model but prefer the 2011 model.
The new Remedy is nice to ride but dont want to spend 2.5K on a bike when I can get a 2011 EX8 for 1900.
I read the mag and thought it would be a good idea.
I would want to go bolt thru as my hardtail has that now and did notice the difference than quick release but if a new fork is expensive I might as well but a new EX8 or Remedy.0 -
Depending on the fork it won't be cheap and then converting the front hub to a maxle version, this could be a 5 minute job if the hub is compatible or a wheel rebuild, the £600 difference in the EX8 and Remedy could easily be the same as the cost of changing the fork and wheel, you could sell the old fork but I would just buy the new remedy.0

If you take a medium frame, there is one Remedy 8 here in stock for a bargain £1,900.....I would be quick

"Pudseyp" Thanks for showing me the Remedy but too far to travel to pick up as what im told is Trek wont deliver over tinternet or am I wrong?
"SS" I cant remember what mag it was. I just remember flicking through when shopping and forgot to buy it.
I dont know if its one associated with BR or one from the darkside!!!0 -
Probably darkside! Are obsessed with short stems and long forks on every bike. The EX8 doesn't 'need' it - though it can be done if you want.0

Shoot, forgot that it's Trek's policy that a retailer cannot deliver....it's all to do with customer service to ensure you get the right bike and set up for you correctly...I think it's more to protect online price wars....shitter eh..0

Forget the EX 8 2011 as not much stock.
Possibly going to buy 2012 model.
Question- Which is better value for money EX7 or EX8?
I know 8 has XT and new DRCV fork but 300 quid could get me dropper post or better tyres!
It will be used on 7 stanes and off piste.
Spec for EX7-

The difference between 7 and 8 is a lot more than £300 if you were buying the parts, i would get the 8 and a dropper post if needed.0
