Front fork travel & climbing bike

Being thick and while I understand more travel gives you more comfort, isn't it also more bouncy?

And what makes a good climbing bike?

    nope that is what damping is for.

    generally speaking bikes that have a weight bias towards the front and a steep head angle will normally climb better. ie XC race bikes.

    but that is a big generalisation and its not always the case. eg a slack but low front end bike might climb better than a steep but high front ended bike.

    There are many variables to play around with on the bike's geometry.

    Then you also have the rider who can shift his/her weight around the bike allowing it to climb up crazy obstacles.
