As above, has anyone done this yet and if so which tubeless kit did you use.
Wheels are DT Swiss M1950 rims (oem for Canyon as I cant find them on DT site) and Schwalbe nobby nic and fat albert tubless ready tires. I've tried emailing DT but have had no reply.

Thanks

  • I had the same issue when I did my XC 8.0; DT X1700 rims I think which are Canyon specific. If you measure them the Stan's website has guidance on which kit to use. Mine used the standard kit and it went about average for people's first attempt at tubeless! Wouldn't go any other way now, it's brilliant.

  • Thanks Shackster.

When you say measure the rims Im guessing thats the distance across the rim ( on the inside).
    What differences have you noticed.

  • There's advice on measuring at

    http://www.notubes.com/SelectingRimStrip.aspx

It mentions a diagram although helpfully that doesn't appear on my PC! But I think it's just the outer width that they want you to measure.

The benefits of tubeless are well documented. I've been running my tyres at lower pressures with no risk of pinch flats. I've had no (known) punctures whatsoever on my supposedly vulnerable nobby nics, through about 270 miles of the South Downs Way (flinty!) - overtook plenty of people with punctures on the BHF rides this summer, numerous other rides including hammering down rocky hills in Wales. My back tyre looks like it's been ripped to shreds, numerous little cuts etc, but no leakage!

That compared to my first trip to Wales on my old tube-tyred hardtail where I had 2 punctures in the first hour or so.

I was sceptical beforehand - thought it was a lot of hassle etc, but I wouldn't go back. It was a bit of a faff, certainly not quite as easy as the video on the Stan's website would suggest (although it probably is for some wheel/tyre combos). Definitely worth it though.

  • Thanks Shachster,

    I think I'll give it a go

Simowill - you won't regret it. I was riding with Shackster on the SDW in the rain/mud earlier this year - got a puncture, a slight fizz, it's sealed and you're still rolling along, rather than having to stop and getting miserable while changing a tube.

It's a simple enough job, just needs a bit of patience (and a hefty amount of elbow grease with a track pump when you come to reseat the tyre). Stan's kits are relatively easy to install - be careful with the rim tape though, as you can pierce it fairly easily (mentioning no other names on this thread.....)
