Bent rear hanger

Hey, I think I have a bent rear hanger on my Cervelo, and since it is part of the frame I can't just replace it. I am not really sure what to do about it. I do have a local Cervelo dealer but I really don't trust them with it. Anyone been in this position before?

I really really really wish more TT bikes had removable hangers.

A decent bike shop should have a gear hanger alignment tool. Its one job I wouldnt mess about trying to sort youself, given you cant just fit a new hanger. You can cause more damage by not having teh right tool for the job, and repeatedly twisting the hanger will weaken it.

take it to any good bike shop for straightening.
scroll down for a look at what can be sorted.

OK a steel frame and extreme but a tweek of an alloy frame is no issue.

  • Failing that, remove the old one.

    And fit this.

I have a carbon P2, fear of dropping it round some of the slicker bends on my route made me look for a contingency.
  • That is perfect, does it just slot in the inside by the qr? I will take it to a bike shop but much happier knowing there is a good alternative. :)

    P.s. mine is also a p2
  • I think so. I have to say I haven't used one- i just know that I could make this work if I needed to. I envisage hacking off whats left of the carbon hanger, filing it clean, coat of laquer and then slotting it onto the outside.

There is a small chance that the lower part of the horizontal dropout will be too deep, but you could file the hanger to fit. You may need an MTB length skewer as well.

Hope it aint bent- they are pretty tough- may be the mech. Best of luck.
