New MTB shoes. Shimano MW81 or XC50N?

I need a new pair of mtb spd shoes and thought it may be a good time to get some winter boots rather than shoes. I tend to ride my mtb in autumn & winter and my road bike spring and summer so don't need to worry too much about feet getting too hot in summer. I only ride in the rain if i get caught out in a shower and pretty much stick to the country roads rather than off-road if it's too wet, it's the cold i suffer with the most. I was thinking the XC50N would be more versatile, would handle the warmer days and overshoes for when it's really cold. I worry that the MW81's may be too warm, but do seem an easier and neater option.

As they are so new there is little in the way of reviews and there's not that much in it on price with the offers on at the moment. Has anyone got any experience with either of these? I've also never owned Shimano shoes, always had Specialized.

They are just a newer model of the MW80 that have been around for a number of years. They are Gortex lined and do stop your feet from overheating as they breathe very well. I use my MW80 all year round.

As with most Shimano shoes they come up small in size and are not very wide fitting .
  • What do you think about the sizing. Are they the same fit as other Shimano shoes? My LBS have shoes but not these boots so i would need to buy online.
