Just fitted the above brakes and very impressed. Seem to be a lot of aftermarket pads available in widely differing prices. I'm looking for a sintered pad for mainly XC but some DH use. Any advice welcome

though personally I don't like them I use EBC....I get mine off ebay and they start around £8.00 pair depending on compound0 -
Thanks, the EBC sintered gold seems to be what I would want - but quite pricey at £12.95 per pair compared to Superstar at £17.99 for 4 pairs and Alligator at £8.99 for two pairs. I guess you find the extra cost worthwhile... Do you use the green unsintered pads?0

£12.95 posted is cheap for the gold...on the EBC site they are £17.00....unless your DH racing the golds are great pads, but then again so are the reds....yes superstar are cheaper, but I have had fit issues in the past and for me they squeal in the wet...aligator are cheap but not the best quality....at the end of the day you get what you pay for.0

Personally, I go for Superstar Kevlar over sintered.
I hate the SS sintered pads with a passion though. They felt like sandpaper when fitted, and squealed terribly at even the slightest hint of moisture. The kevlar ones are much more powerful and far less noisy.
So long as you bed them in properly, they last well enough. They do still wear faster than sintered, but they also perform better and at that price, you can afford to replace them more often anyway.
They were quite a tight fit on my Avids, but are perfectly fine on my Formulas.0 -
Thanks for the replies -I've just ordered a couple of pairs of EBC sintered gold pads from Merlin on Fleabay. Kevlar pads sound interesting and may try them in the summer, but with regular trips to Wales planned I think sintered will last better during the winter.0

when you've worn out the ebc's, the goodridge pads are also worth a look. found the ebc's or goodridge are easily the best for wear v power v cost after trying lots.
superstars are cheap, but found the lacked bite. noticeable difference in breaking power.
swiss stops are excellent for power, but visciously expensive and may of well of been made out for cheese - it would wear longer0
