Did a quick search, but couldn't find anything recent. Has anyone ridden or owned a recent Scott Scale? I'm looking for a XC hardtail around a grand. From the conversation I had in the LBS, they suggested it would be a good XC rig. Any other thoughts? They also stock Cube, Trek and Gary Fisher and I have access to a Giant and Spesh dealer nearby.

Decent enough bike, but if are Trek dealers take a look at the 6500:

Superb spec, fork is way better than most.

Cheers - I'll ask them to get a Trek in too. Had a Fuel EX 8 in the past that I didn't get on terribly well with, but I suspect that was an issue with having too much suspension rather than the bike itself. On the flat stuff I ride it felt too comfortable. No zing...

I have a Scale 50. Its light and quick, but definitley race style rather than cruiser. I have used mine for two CycloCross races.

If you hunt around you might get a 2011 Scale 35 (Carbon) near the grand mark.

Cheers - I sat on a Scale 70 the other day. Just the job in terms of size and feel. Hoping to spend some time with a demo rig shortly. Will definitely look for a 2011 model.

The 50 has XT rear DER. Seems very reliable.

    Spotted a 2011 50 for 900 quid. Might be just the ticket. That's a CFO-friendly price too...
