My freehub slips on uphill climbs, I assumed its caused by the free hub. So I tookoff the wheeltook out the axle andremoved the freehub. Unlike the article on bikeradar there was noseal to remove,it was completely sealed
Shimano site shows this http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/media/techd ... 728374.pdf
So im guessing I cant do any servicing of it. BeforeI goahead and buy a new freehub, howcan i be sure its not something else. It doesnt happen whenImchanging gear . Ive checked the gear hanger os straight. The gears are well indexed.
Im flummoxed. Any ideas?

If it is not engaging, can only be the freehub. As you sa, not designed to be serviced, though you can squirt lube into them.
Best bet is to buy a new hub as you get so many more spares, then transplant the innards into yours:

Cheers guys. Saves me messing about. What lube/oil would you use where the freehub meets the washer/hubCurrent Stock:

If this only happens going uphill- ie under load- are you sure your chain and cassette aren't worn out?0

The freehub has started slipping occasionally on my M475 hub.
I soaked my freehub in de-greaser to clean it out, and then soaked it in transmission fluid to re-lube it which seemed to work well, as it actually started clicking again (was clogged up with old grease/dirt before, I suspect).
It still slips...
New freehub's aren't much less than £20, you may as-well buy a complete hub from the link above for £20 and swap the necessary parts over.2009 Giant Trance X5

Sorry to hijack this but i thought it easier than a new thread. I have a hub to replace for my riding buddy which is a FHM495 A is this the same as the 475 above but with centre lock disc?
Thanks0 -
Different I think - check shimano docs for compatibility and part nos.0
