replacement 170 mm crankset

hi
i am thinking of replacing my crankset and have been offered a 170mm xtr crankset i currently have a lx deore 175mm will i notice the 5mm difference when riding.
I am approx 5ft 9 in height.

    maybe maybe not. you will get a little less leverage.

  • I read 'Bicycle Design' by Mike Burrows a while back (used to design bikes for Giant, and Chris Boardman's 'Lotus' bike, amongst other stuff). He has some counter-intuitively odd ideas, amongst which is the argument that you should have cranks around 120- 150mm. Can't remember the reasoning behind it though- something to do with achieving a higher rev count, as well as more ground clearance and it not being any worse for your body- possibly better for you. Of course, if you have super short cranks then you should have smaller chainrings too...

    Anyway, I think what I'm trying to say is you may notice it, but you might find it better. And it is only 5mm so I imagine you'll get used to the new ones pretty quickly anyway.
