About a year ago I bought a Gary Fisher HIFI pro.. After some use I managed to snap the frame.. A fairly common fault as it happens..
Because of the demise of GaryFisher trek have taken up the brand and amazingly they are replacing my snapped frame with a brand new Trek EX9 frame and rear fork.. Big up Trek.
However I stupidly/unfortunately rebuit all my nice shiny bits onto an old Orbea hardtail frame I had knocking about the shed..
Maiden voyage, stopped in town for some food, and the thieves have taken my bike (and my miss's bike) for a little holiday.. Never to be seen again..
So now I have a brand new EX9 frame worth an amount i'm not sure of!!! But it will cost me between £1500 and £2300 to rebuild with all the running gear i've lost...
Insurance is no where near enough to pay for a full rebuild....
What would you do??

Some shrewd shopping and I reckon you could get a reasonable build for not too much. Or buy a donor bike a strip it (assuming the parts fit). How much do you expect to get, and what sort of standard of parts are you after?0

Go for a budget groupset like SLX, they work very well, are very nice looking bits of kit, and the only difference between them and XTR or something are a few grams and the price tag. SLX Groupset for everything should be around 500, drop 250 on some used wheels, and another 300 on some forks and 200 on finishing kit and you've about a 1200 pound, very decent build. Or go used for the Groupset and you will drop it down a couple 100 as well.0

how much would I get if I just sold the frame and bought new?0

Very hard to say, not much as the warranty is not transferable.0

This should save you a decent amount of wedge. Then I'd say put the savings either towards a better fork or better wheels. If you're looking to save money and are fairly competent then you should probably try building your own. If it all goes wrong then you've still got the parts for a mechanic to build and true for you.Big guy; small air!0
