Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a New Hardtail for my Wife for Xmas as a Suprise and I have read that the Decathlon Bikes are decent for the money. The Store is very convenient for me and the Warranty on the Bikes seems decent. I didnt really want to spend much more than £200 and so I am looking at the B'Twin Rockrider 5.1 and 5.2. I am very torn between the two bikes to be honest. My Wife will be a beginner and seems very keen and wants to start riding in the new year with family and friends and will be using the Bike for Off Road Woody/Gravelly/Canal Trails and so my question is: Which out of the 5.1 and 5.2 would you recommend and why?

I am swaying towards the 5.2 as many people have said that the 5.2 is a far superior Bike than the 5.1 especially the Drive Train and well worth the extra money, it also has a good review for a Beginners Bike which I think I read on this very Website. I want the Bike to last really and I have no idea about Components but I do think she may benefit from having the Trigger Shifters rather than Grip Shifters and Double Wall Tyres rather than Single Wall?

Also would it be possible to fit a Child Seat to these Bikes as she may want to take our Child out on the odd occasion?

The other Bike I was looking at was a Claud Butler Pinelake Ladies 2011.

All opinions, info and help would be much appreciated

  • I do have another question regarding Frame Size, as the Bike is going to be a Suprise I am seeking your opinions on size. She is 5ft 4 - 5 / 26 - 28" Inside Leg I think and after sitting on the Bikes myself, I think the best Size to get would be a Small (155cm to 165cm) which I think is a 16". Would you agree?

    Thanks Again

Defo 5.2 and yes probably a small (16) should be fine, always better to try and test the bike but as its a surprise.

You could ask if they will exchange for a different size if its wrong, as its a present, pretty sure they would agree.

As above, you get a lot more with your money with the 5.2 - a proper mountain bike.

And again, need to try them out really.
