Trek Fuel EX ABP upgrade to Thru axle?

I'm wondering if anyone can help here, i have an EX8 frame with standard QR rear axle, it is an ABP frame from 2010.
I'm wondering, if i remove the ABP bits from mine, and fit those from the higher spec ex9 or above, would this enable me to run a thru axle, or is the rear triangle different?
I imagine i could need different bearings, but im not sure if the frame itself changed?

Having just been on the phone to Trek, the 2010 EX9 ABP system can not be put into an 2010 EX8 rear triangle (or at least its not a straight swap). However the EX9 rear triangle (with ABP) Will fit the EX8 frame as it is the same part.
Thru axle here i come.
Note:
Trek told me there is "only a 10% increase in rigidity" to me that sounds significant.
Hope this helps someone in the future!The Frog: Lapierre Zesty 214 2010 - Upgraded - W.I.P0 -
sound expensive though?0

Alongside being more rigid (marginally) its also more tarty. I very much like that.
Expense, in second hand parts it should be £150 and no more, and thats excluding the same of my parts. The Frog: Lapierre Zesty 214 2010 - Upgraded - W.I.P0 -
Erm... this thread is slightly confusing. All Trek Fuel Ex's run the ABP system. Do you want to convert you 2010 EX8 to the 142x12mm dropouts that are found on the 2011 and newer Fuel Ex's?
If that is so, this thread may shed some light on it - viewtopic.php?p=16933308
It's not a cheap job unless someone has a crashed damaged EX 8 or above.0 -
We had a similar discussion around Remedy's and IIRC seemed to be a whole new rear on 2010 models but 2011 could be converted with dropout changes
