Looking to rent bikes for monday so i can take some friends on their first downhill experience at Aston Hill, just having problems finding a shop that'll rent out useful bikes. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

(Put this in the Downhill section and didn't get any response, thought id try here!)

  • These guys offer bike hire and very close to Aston Hill - not sure what models they carry though.

  • unfortunatly already tried them and its just some trek hard tails, seems a bit wierd that there's nothing even remotely close to London for renting full suspension bike (maybe theres a niche there). ahh well, guess its paint balling on Mondau then, thanks for the suggestion though.

Plenty of shops will let you demo a bike for a day, normally costs about £40-50.
Doubt hiring out DH bikes to a bunch of new Downhillers is a great business model.

    To quote Aston's FAQ:

Can I hire bikes at Aston Hill?
At the moment there’s no local facilities for hiring bikes suitable for riding either cross country, downhill or 4X near Aston Hill. Occasionally local shops have demo bikes in, but this is not ideal as the models, sizes and bike type will change, not to mention that the shop will be letting you use an expensive bike as a gesture of goodwill.

There are however plenty of places around London that either hire or demo bikes in general, including full sus and some big AM rigs (maybe not near Aston though), but yeah the chances of demoing a DH bike is slim. Probably fat chance you'll be able to hire a full face helmet either, not being a big DH area the South East.

You can do Aston on AM or even XC bikes if you're careful. Though currently Aston is going to be wet and slippery, and it's not the best place for people to start out DHilling in the wet. Aston themselves say leave it to the experts in these conditions.

yep Aston in the wet is a very slippery place not sure I'd be wanting to take newbies there. Plenty of XC fun to be had in Wendover Woods and Ashridge nearby though.
