Long Mudguards

I'm looking for some full length mudguards for my rigid XC/commuter bike to fit over 26x2.0 tyres. The frame has mounting holes in seat & chain stay bridges, so the rear isn't a problem, but the forks have no mounting holes/eyelets at all.

Planet Bike SpeedEz http://ecom1.planetbike.com/7016.html seem ideal, but I can't find them anywhere in the UK. Has anyone used these, where did you get them?

These http://www.wittons.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2460&c=01&i=B001FB6WD2 are similar but don't look as sturdy. Has anyone used them?

My other option is to get a set like the SKS Beavertail XL & modify the front mudguard to mount in the steerer tube.

Any other options that I haven't thought of. Not crud catcher type guards, I've tried these & don't think they're very effective, I want to keep my feet/legs dry, not just my body & face.

  • I had a similar issue with the Karma. Wanted some proper mudguards for the commute, but although there are mounting points on the rear, there is nothing at all up front. Plue, I had the added issue of having to get guards big enough to go over 2.35" tyres.

    Eventually went for SKS chromoplastics.

Modified the bike to fit with the cunning use of a couple of rubberized c-clips and an extra star nut in the bottom of the steerer, fastened to a small l-shaped mounting bracket (for the top-bolt to fasten to). Sounds much more complicated than it is, honest.

SKS do a front mudguard that has an expanding bung that fits in the hole at the bottom of the crown. Use one on my hardtail and it does the job looks a bit odd but keeps your face clean.

I did consider that type of mudguard, but not sure if it will be long enough for the daily commute.

Good idea, I might try something similar to this. Or, I discovered the Zefal No Mud mudguard last night, which might work on the front.
