Lezyne vs Topeak - there's no competition

I've been using a Topeak pocket rocket for just over a year now and on Sunday it let me down big time! 25 miles from home, no gas left, time to use the mini pump but the thing just starts leaking air from what feels like every possible orifice. Frantic pumping is followed by a horrible hissing noise. I manage to pump a minimal amount of air in and quickly remove the pump so I can try and ride home but deep down I know with so little air I'll flat again pretty soon and have the humiliation of calling the wife . . . . . noooooo. An yes a few miles later I make the call.
Feeling let down by Topeak I buy a Lezyne pressure drive as people seem to rave about them. It arrived this morning. What a beautiful piece of kit, everything about it oozes quality. You just can't help touching it and feeling special owning such a well made piece of equipment. Tested it out and about 100 strokes gave me 90psi which was never possible with the topeak. Brilliant!
Before people start going on about the topeak morph, I've tried that one too and the build quality is no different from the pocket rocket. My pocket rocket got a little sticky at the top of each stroke first and then ultimately failed after just 14 months use.
Lezyne win on quality, aesthetics and any other possible categories you can think of. Don't argue because you know I'm right.
P.S. Durability is yet to be tested by me but I'm sure another Lezyne fan will back me up on this one

Just for comparison, example...
Allegedly Lance Armstrong won a (lower cat mtb?) race finishing the last 15 miles with a flat.

I use a topeak road morph on my winter bike and have a Lezyne pressure drive for the summer as it fits in a rear pocket. For sure the Lezyne feels/looks higher quality but both have worked fine for me - the road morph is 3 years old now and still works well enough to double up as a mini track pump when on holiday.0

I've had a pocket rocket DX for about five years. Mind you, in that time I've only used it a couple of times! I do run my eye over it occasionally and it seems to work fine still. It's tempting fate I know but I find modern tyres rarely puncture as long as they are well pumped up and you avoid potholes, hedge clippings etc. I believe flints are a problem down south, but we don't get them here fortunately!
From your comment about 14 months use I wonder if you used the pocket rocket as your main pump? I always use my track pump at home. I view mini pumps as for emergency use only.0 -
My Lezyne let me down in exactly the same way as your Topeak!
I do agree about the asthetics though.0 -
Gotta be the Lezyne for me. Bought one this summer having been a big topeak fan, having owned a number of their pumps and even going to the extra weight burden of carrying an alien 2 as my multi tool for road bike use.
IME the Lezyne far out performs any topeak pump I ve owned in all areas, especially the one that matters, the ability to get air into a tube and the flexi hose attachment on the lezyne pressure drives is a much better connection with valves than the various smart head designs i ve struggled with on other pumps.
Gonna ask the old lady to treat me to one of the carbonn ones with a co2 piggy back for Xmas, the romance just doesnt die in our house.0 -

I'd definitely recommend this
Better to have a dedicated c02 pump and this little puppy is just as beautiful and well made as the pressure drive pump. And it will take cheapo brands of c02 cartridges unlike the Genuine Innovation pumps.0 -
I have the above (I think) but it has a cover for the co2 canister, so you can keep it 'together' but flip the cartridge upside down when not in use.
The only annoying thing is that I find it DAMN hard to get the thing off the valve (as i push it on quite hard to ensure 100% air goes into the tyre, as sometimes air can escape) so I feel im gonna snap off the little presta thingy when removing it.0 -
Well I'm a convert in the opposite direction. Lezyne is a design from 30 years ago with that stupid screw-on tube. Road Morph is infinitely better. Better still is the Innovations Nano CO2 inflator.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0
