Racing in North East England

I have never raced before but would really like to give it a try.
I live in Northumberland and wondered if anyone knows of any races that take place in the Northumberland/Tyne and Wear area which would be suitable for a newbie?

    There's the marathon series at Kielder - details on the KTR website. All about 50k long but nothing really technical on the courses - plus you get free post race pub grub. :D

    Register on MTBNE. There are quite a few racers on there that should be able to give you more pointers.
