Should I upgrade mechs?

Hi,
I'm in the process of finding parts to upgrade my groupset. My bike came with Shimano 2300; so far I have got ultegra shifters, chain and DA cassette (all 9spd), ultegra brakes and wheelset. I will probably get some new cables for the installation.

Is it worth upgrading the mechs as well? Would I notice much difference between 2300 and 105/ultegra? Advice generally seems to be it's more about decent cables.

I'm not really bothered about saving a few grams or having a matching groupset (nothing wrong with the 2300 chainset that I can tell, so that's staying), just wondering if performance would be significantly improved for an outlay of £40 or so.

Cheers for any help,
James

  • Yes, mechs make some difference, usually go for a higher spec rear than the front if looking to save money, so Ultegra on rear and 105 on front or Ultegra back and front?

Hmmmm.....any idea how I work out which front mech size I need? Can't seem to find anything on Specialized's site :(
It's a Secteur, seat post is 27.2mm if that helps

Undo the current one - the size should be written on the inside.

I have a very lightly used, unmarked Ultegra 6700 rear mech for sale, would be just what you're looking for. Drop me a PM if you're interested ;-)
