I'm looking to buy my 1st full suspension trail bike & had look at at the Orange bikes website. I'm considering the 2012 Five S & then saw the component spec on the Five Pro, which leads me to my question, Is the pro worth the £500 extra?

Thanks in advance

Why specifically a Five ??? is it because everyone seems to have one or ridden one ??? there are plenty of FS bikes that are in the same price brackets but are way better......I know everyone raves about them but to me it's a lot to pay for a simple single pivot bike....

There are so good deals about on the likes of Santa Cruz, Yeti, Transition the list goes on...

Well, the Pro has Fox vs RockShox forks, is 10spd vs 9spd, Hope brakes vs Elixir 5s and a few rungs up the shimano ladder with several drivetrain bits. You can always spec up the bits you like on the Pro onto an S and maybe save a few pennies, depending on what you go for.

As much as I'm inclined to say shop around and have a look at other makes, the Five is sorted and it's from an English company, so you'll be supporting local business!

  • Thanks for your replies, I'll take my time & do some more research on other bikes out there.
  • Make sure you try and ride everything your interested in.

I did and still ended up with a Five.

I would go with the Five Pro and as a minimum upgrade the forks to the 32 RLC and rear shock to the Factory RP23. The brakes to the hope M4 is worth it for £40 too. I went for most options as a friend had to rebuild his headset and bottom bracket after a month riding an S because of the sandy condition locally.
