Probably been asked before - sorry if so.

the installation instructions say to tighten the BB cups using the special tool to a torque of 35-50nm. how are you supposed to measure the torque you are applying with this tool? I have a torque wrench but can't use it on these cups  as they require the silly special tool

    Just tighten them by feel.

firm pressure with a 8 inch lever will be fine. They have to be pretty loose to actually work loose, if that make sense.

And too tight and you risk them never coming out, especially on alu frames.

  • You can use a torque wrench if you have a socket type tool for them, like the park tools bbt-19. Alas that doesn't help you much, you're just going to have to do it by feel. IME you want them just tight enough, but not too tight

Thanks for the replies, will do as advised. I guess 35-50nm is quite a big range anyway... Next minefield: headset!
