can the new 2012 2x10 xtr cranks be used with a bash ring. I'm planning a set as CRC are doing them for £329.99 with a further 10% discount just now
Thanks

    Short answer no.

They've got an 88mm BCD, so if you got a custom made bash from somewhere and some long bolts and washers you could possibly space one out away from the outer ring, but certainly not ideal.

it depends. the 2 ring 88mm BCD version No. the 104mm BCD version yes.

but you will have to have a Gert big cut out around the arm. as you are mounting out side the big ring.

  • What if I mounted one of the bb mounted bash guards? I think mrp does one?

sure it has nothing to do with the cranks but does depend on the frame and the BB fitting so maybe.

  • I'm sure mbuk did a review of chain devices a couple of months back and one stood out to me as useful. Can't mind the name tho!

  • What other cranks, for 2x10 set up would be suitable for a bash guard. Ive just discovered my bike may be a bit of a pain for a chain device.

So are you after a chain device, or a bash guard?

    What is the bike?
  • I said chain device but I was thinking more of a bash guard/ring. Im putting 2x10 on the bike and need the cranks/chain rings sorted as I have the rest of the parts, but due to me damaging the outer ring on the current set up I want it protecting. The bike is a 2009 5 pro. Most of the bits bought are xtr. And to get the gearing right I want to run 26t inner and 38t outer.

fit a 3 ring crankset with suitable rings mounted on the granny and the middle rings and a bash on the outside.

  • So I could do that with my current race face evolve (3x9) cranks?
If so what is the best chainrings and bashring to go for? Sounds like it will be cheaper than cranks!

Yep. That's a far better solution. I like TA Chinook rings, check out Starbike, they're cheaper and have better stock than the UK shops.

    Can't help on bash ring.
