How tall are you and what size do you ride ? I'm 6'1" and have tested both the 56cm and 58cm. The 58 felt huge and despite adjusting seat etc I'm confident it was too big. The 56 felt much better and I was happy with the fit however the amount of seatpost on show was a surprise. It was a couple of inches within the seatpost limit but still concerned me. I've also tested the Allez and found that the 56 was too small and the 58 was ok. Prefer the geometry of the Secteur/Roubaix though. Thanks for your replies.[/quote]

    Hi there

Bought a 58cm Secteur Elite last year (2010 model) after test riding both that and a 56cm. I am just under 6ft tall with a 33" inside leg. The 56 just felt a bit too cramped when I rode it so I went with the 58.

However after about 3 - 4 weeks riding I got the feeling I was over-reaching a bit ( I ride mostly on the brake hoods). Swapped out the standard 110mm stem for a 90mm one and that cured the problem. Could prabably have even gone down to the 75mm stem and that would have been fine.

So now, for my physiology, the 58cm is perfect after that tweak on the stem length.

I think the "huge" feeling you experienced is because the Secteur has quite a long top tube compared to some other bikes at the same size point. That coupled with the 110mm stem will probably give that oversized impression.

I'm 6'1" and ride a 58cm Roubaix with 120mm stem. Suits me very well for long audax rides with reach to//height of bars feeling comfortable and drops very useable. I think for me a 56 would be too cramped and bars too low without flipping the stem.

Almost 6ft 2 and find a 58cm Roubaix huge too.

Long top tube and feels like you're sitting on a Raleigh Chopper! Others like the geometry for comfortable riding - personally I find it terrible and the position on the bike is so upright it just feels like a bike for 'poodling' around on rather than riding quickly.

5ft 10 and have the 56cm Secteur. Tried the 54cm and just preferred the slightly bigger size. It felt more comfortable and I looed better riding it.. If they did a 55cm I would have brought that instead.

I have a roubaix pro from 2007 model year, I am just over 6' 1" tall; 33-34" leg; and frame size 58.

The bit I found oversized were the width of the handlebars and possibly the stem length when I tried in the shop. I ended up buying mine used with better wheels fitted and I think a slightly shorter stem.

Suspect you will require a 58 with a decent bike fit - if buying new this should be provided - just make sure you are buying from a shop with decent facilities/ knowledgeable staff.

  • I got a Sectuer Elite APEX in Aug this year - I am 6 foot tall with 30 inch inside leg. I got a 56 on test for a week and felt it was too cramped and bought a 58. From the start I felt it was better and fitted me - after a few weeks, for about 2-3 weeks I felt I was a bit too stretched out and considered swapping for a shorter stem but I stuck with it and now I wouldn't change it for the world and I live it. As others said its a more upright bike for longed distance riding and doesn't have racy geometry. I bought mine form one of the Specialised Concept Stores and cannot reccomend them highly enough. You get three months from purchase and if you need to change a stem they will do it for free in that period. You get the bike fit free if you but the bike and if you need/want/can afford it get the full fitting. I was unsure about getting the full fit but I wondered if I was between 56 and 58 but they assurred me I was right in fit for a 58. The fit guy said try it for 12 weeks or so and if there are any problems then book in for the full fit and see if anything needs tweaked - I found that impressive as if he had pushed the other way I would probably have stumped up the £100+ but I did as he said and am now sure I don't need one and the 58 fits fine. One last point - I am sure they said a minor adjustment down in size ie easier than one up in size.

Hope this helps and post what you end up with and what you feel about it please.

Another Roubaix owner reporting in: 6' tall, 33" inner and a 58cm frame. Tried both 56 & 58 and preferred the larger. No spacers required and I didn't want the aero posture (seat is only an inch above stem). What won't help you is that the 56cm one sold to a 6'3" guy who found the 58cm one too large...

  • I'm 6' with 35" inseam and longer than average arms so I ride a 58 with 120mm stem.

At 6'1" you're on the cusp of 56 and 58 (assuming fairly average proportions). Get a fitting but I'd suggest that if you're dropping below a 100mm stem on a 58 you may be better with a 56 (they do after all have very long top and head tubes so bar height shouldn't be much of an issue).

Those that say they are like choppers are probably missing the point of the bike a bit.

Saddle to bar drop has greatly increased over the years resulting in lots of people trying to look 'pro' and rarely if ever actually using their drops. On a bike like a Roubaix or a Cervelo RS you may find yourself using your drops a lot more

5"8 - 54 Secter Elite. Just the right size for me. Much prefer the more upright riding position, still good on the drops too.

  • 5' 10' and on a 54cm Roubaix. 56cm simply felt too big, despite the shop telling me different..

It's what feels comfortable for you that matters, rather then how it looks.

I'm bang on 6ft, and I have an 06 S-Works Roubaix which is absolutely perfect for me. Tried a few 58s in Specialized and found them too unwieldy. Try before you buy!

I had a 56 Secteur, I'm 5' 10" and a 32in inside leg and I had to get a shorter stem and it never felt quite right but I had a lot of seat post showing, I am on a different frame now which seems to suit me more, I might have been more comfortable on a 54 but with even more seat post showing.

I'm 6'0 with a 33" inside leg and went for a 58cm frame. I was feeling a little bit stretched out on it until I went for a bike fitting (well worth doing; minor changes = instant 1.5mph avg. gain!); now it's comfortable, but with a flipped stem so a very upright riding position for a road bike - I only have a 1cm drop between seat and bars! If I ever feel the need for a more aero position, I'll need a shorter stem.

I think I only get away with a 58 because I have slightly longer than average arms; probably would have been better off with a 56. Lovely bike, though :)
  • I'm 5' 8" ish and have a 54cm 2010 model. The stem is great because you can have 4 different angles on it. I've got it pointing up a touch and find it very comfortable on the hoods and perfectly doable on the drops.

When I go out with friends on more racy bikes they barely ever use the drops whereas I tend to use mine quite a bit if it's windy, downhill, pushing on the flat, sprinting out of the saddle to catch up etc etc. I think that having something a bit less aggressive is a great compromise because you still have the drops if you want to be more aero.
