Hi,
We are planning to do a Oxford to Paris cycle ride in a group of 5, or 6. We are not sure if to do the Portsmouth-Le-harve route, or the Dover-Calais route. We want to avoid using the overnight ferry, as some of us suffer from sea-sickness.
We are planning to take a week holiday for it, so would like to take a fairly scenic route. Does anyone have any experience on doing this sort of ride and give advice?
Also, anyone know any nice places in the northish region of France, we already plan to pop into Rouen and Versailles, and will of course cycle along the des champs Elysees to the arc!!!!

There are other day ferries to Normandy and Britanny. Eurotunnel also offer a shuttle service for cyclists.

Heading for the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysée is certainly one option, but you need to get past La Défense first. It might be worth considering the option of following the Canal d'Ourq.

Did the same but from Arc de Triomph to Versailles, Rouen, but used the Dieppe Ferry.
This is a short route with just one nights stopover in Rouen so may not need a full week, buts
theres lots to see in Paris by Bike if you have days to spare
Following the Loire say from Blois to Le Havre or vice versa may offer more miles but then
Sunflower season is prob best time for this..

  • "The Loire doesnt end in le Harve " I found the road's out of Le Havre and into Rouen and out the otherside toward Beauvais exterley open and very windy, especially if it's your face :(
