Totally Unnecessary Cover Versions

Right, if you're going to cover a song, then you owe it to yourself to make it AT LEAST AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL....
An example of this would be Johnny Cash ripping off Nine Inch Nails and "Hurt". Some divots think Cash wrote this, the original is still better IMHO but he had a good crack at it.
Which brings me to today, listening to R6 at home...and a song by The The from 1983's "Soul Mining" album called "This Is The Day". Awesome track from a great album which was ahead of it's time. And it's just been murdered by the Manic Street Preachers. Sounds like some drivel you'd hear on PopIdolFactorXTalent. What a bunch of talentless cnuts....WHY????!!!!!

So, vent your spleen and tell us what track p*sses you off....

Johnny Cash brought a lot to his version of Hurt. It's a really good cover version. One of the best.

If you want bad cover versions then just look at anyone doing Teardrop by Massive Attack.

(To balance it out, Massive Attack's Doors Cover is awful).

To be fair, the Manics can't even cover their own early songs properly these days.

Probably the worst cover of all time - George Micheal's attempt to cover New Order's True Faith.

I mean if your going to do a cover then at least put some effort into it .

On the subject of worse covers Curt Smith of Tears for Fears fame demolished "Still in love with you" it was shameful .........

Not at all needed for such an awesome track, the Mike Shinoda/Linkin Park esque modern electro feel just adds another dimension, the video is really well done too.

Some gobby girl from X Factor covered Cohen's Hallelujah a year or so ago, and it has ruined any enjoyment I once took from the song.

[I feel I should now say how good Jeff Buckley's cover is - and to be fair it is]

    I was about to.

Led Zep's blatant rip-off of his classic Stairway to Heaven was a travesty. I wonder he didn't sue.

  • I can't tell you who covered it, but some woman butchered Bohemian Rhapsody.
It was many years ago, Radio 1 played it a few times, then it died a deserving death.
    Truly dreadful.
