Well, I've ripped the arse out of my Endura Singletrack now three times, the first two occasions I had them repaired, the zips are shattered and the buckle was always rubbish. Time for some new 'uns but it's a minefield on CRC. I'm thinking that I actually need to go to a shop and browse but I just don't have an LBS close by.
So - a good all weather short, water should roll off of them, need to be a tough material. What do you recommend?

I use the lycra shorts I wear on my roadie and a pair of shorts (No name) that are rip-stop material.
That way the crown jewels are padded and the shorts don't tear (And they are cheap to replace)Richard

My favourites at the moment are some Royal Racing Matrix shorts, great shorts.0

What is the material of the Matrix short like? Is it thin and crisp or thick and heavy? (In my mind thick and heavy is better)0

Big fan of the Humvees which I have in both shorts and 3/4 stylee. Survived a few crashes, a LOT of branch, thorn, undergrowth interaction, have a great liner and tons of pockets.Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0 -
I love the material Endura cut their shorts from, but their buckles are shocking. The three point buckle on my singletrack is just awful and it doesn't look to have been vastly improved upon in the pictures so I'm happy to try another brand.0

Pity they have gone up so much lately though.0 -
I've got Fox Rangers but they are anything but water resistant - thick cotton.
These are good;
