Im trying to get the lower off at the moment. These are the model with the hollow bottom fork legs.

So I've followed everything to the letter, undone the 10mm nut with a deep reach socket most of the way and the 5mm hex 3/4 full turns. I'm at the point where I'm releasing the press fit rods in the bottom of the forks by hitting them with a rubber mallet.

I've managed to do the 10mm nut side but the 5mm hex key side doesn't want to budge. How much force is actually required to release the press fit?

Thanks, I may be back for more help.

If they're anything like my 2008 0r 2009 rebas, it's quite a lot of force. A good sharp hit is needed to break it free. I was worried about overdoing it the first time I took them apart too.

"As I said last time, it won't happen again."
  • Thanks, more force required then.

I'll probably be back for more help later.
  • I'm giving it a seriously good whack and it's still not budging. Is it just a case of manning up and hitting it harder?
  • sorted, lowers off :D
  • I've found the source of the lack of low speed compression damping. Something in the damping unit was assembled incorrectly. I took the bottom of the damper off, realigned everything and reassembled. It's worknig right now. Just to put the correct 111ml of 5wt oil in and put the damper back in and that's the damping sorted and my non poploc low speed compression adjustment sorted. After that, I've got to reassemble the lowers with all the correct oils and grease in. :)
  • Finaly, after much faffing, they're done. New damping oil, poploc changed to a crown mounted lockout and I've found out why there was no low speed compression dampnig adjustment.

In the lowers the reason for there being way too much stiction was thta a foam ring was installed incorrectly and it was folded over. Those came out and they were doused with fox float fuild. A tiny bit of light suspension grease on the seals and 5ml of 15wt fork oil in each leg and they're done and working better than new. :D
