Which material is the best to go with....

Organic, Sintered or Kevlar?

What difference does it really make?

    From Superstar website
Organic - High power soft pad for great feel and power, excellent bite from cold
Sintered – Hard pads for long life in abrasive condition, extra long life
Kevlar – Soft race pad for ultimate power but Kevlar fibres give much longer life than Organic

For wet muddy conditions I use sintered. Organic lasted two rides in sunny South Wales.
My son uses kevlar and they seem to last well, but a bit more expensive.

superstar sintered last the longest by far. i love mine and if you don't want to replace pads often and ride alot then they are worth getting

EBC...I didn't like Superstar, poor fit and squealed like a 14year old boy a choir practice

If the world was flat, I wouldn't be riding !
  • Awesome, didn't realise SS did brake pads, and for a great price too! Just ordered a set of 4x sintered,

The standard pads with the Formula Oro's seemed ok, then I did Dusk Till Dawn (Thetford), my rear pads were stripped after one lap... The fronts were not as badly stripped, but still quite a lot... Hoping the sintered will last a bit longer than that!

Even so, for £22 delivered for 4 sets, that's a great price!

I'll have to try the EBC if the SS pads are no good, have my fingers crossed the SS ones are good because they are so cheap to replace ;)

EBC aren't that bad you can get them on ebay for around a tenner posted.

  • I rate the SS sintered pads, last ages and no squealing for me. A mate tried the organic ones and didn't even see ten miles

I was considering some EBC pads too, but I think I'll try the SS pads first at that price.

Kevlar or sintered for mainly commuting duty?

Long pad life if good, but what about performance when cold and wet over winter?

Currently using the stock Hayes pads (Stroker Ryde brakes) which struggle in the wet somewhat.

SS sintered are great for english weather.

the dh track i ride at which gets very muddy very quickly sees no difference to the performence of the brakes

SS sintered here too and no complaints. They do make a little bit of noise on the first few pulls, but a bit of noise here and there doesn't bother me. They soon go quiet and perform well.
  • SS red in my saints. Sintered pads don't get hot enough quickly to bite for my braking style (none, on hard and late, off again). lasted pretty well with little noise in wet/dry too!

Another kind of related question... What do people reckon of the SS flame design rotor?

SuperStar Kevlar all the way! These pads are great, they do exactly what the website says. They bed-in so quickly and work very well as long as the weather isn't too bad and the ground is quite hard.

I use these on all my bikes in all conditions including Keilder 100 and Relentless 24. Don't miss understand me, they do wear down and in the right conditions they wear very quickly, but for the money and the deal you get on 4 pairs they are worth it.

Trouble is at Thetford I can destroy a pair of organic pads in under 10 miles if its wet.... Hoping the Sintered will last a bit longer!
