Sub-£50 platform pedals recommendation

I've narrowed it down to the following. Key requirements are:
- Must be nice and grippy in the rain
- HOWEVER Must not scourge my shins - so the screw ones are out
- Must be black or mostly black
- Sturdy, nice smooth bearings etc
I think I've narrowed it down to:
- MKS Sylvan Stream
- MKS Compact
- MKS Ezy-XP (removeable could actually be handy, though might not be bothered to do this every day...)
- Genetic Drift-R
- Genetic Urban Pro
Have I missed any?

DMR V12's
the most grippy pedal i ever used
as he said above, if pedals ain't grippy their slippy
i think you will slip on all pedals at some point though......
just don't let them any where near your shins (I did an still have loads of scars to prove it)Keeping it classy since '830 -

+1 to V12's, probably the best flats you can buy. If I don't slip of them when DH'ing you won't whilst commutingpain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

Another +1 for V12's (or V8's if you want to save a bob or two)0

Don't get v12s or V8s, they're expensive and rubbish compared to the Superstars and MG-1s.
Ask on the MTB forum, if anyone will know about flat pedals......

I'd agree V8's are crap, loose ball poorly sealed bearings just aren't up to the job. The V12's come with cartridge bearings that are very well sealed and more than up to the job. I haven't had a grumble from mine in over 2 years of hardcore MTB use. As for shape it's very much down to personal preference. The DMR's have a very open design that doesn't get clogged with mud, not a great issue on the commute, and they can feel a little odd with small feet in soft soled shoes. Try a few and see which feel better, but stay away from anything with loose bearings unless you want to budget on replacing them every yearpain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

I've used a pair of these for a few years now, and still run perfectly. They're also probably the lightest you can find for the money. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Black pedals get scratched and worn until they are mostly silver. I prefer mine to be preworn and silver all over.
MKS are a solid choice with good bearings that are easy to service. They are also toe-clip compatible so you can get some pedal retension and use any normal shoe.0 -

In the end I found a set of these locally that were a comparable price with online after some gentle haggling, so sprang for them. HUGE improvement - the ride feels so much more planted and secure now, and I can feel a much better transfer of power.
They look fab too Saw someone cycling along with luminescent green ones today, but I just went for the plain black. I'll save the dayglo option for the day when I put together a singlespeed in pearlescent aqua with orange-taped drop bars.
Time to get the Octopi on evilbay, I think. Thanks everyone for persuading me to reconsider about the grub screw platforms.Cannondale Bad Boy SLX - commute and/or bad weather
