Not sure on exact width but my brother put a 2.35 highroller on the back of his successfully, not sure how much clearance he had though, I imagine a fair bit. Highrollers come upa bit small though. What you thinking of putting on it? I'll be able to measure it up over the weekend if you need a definite answer though.0

Umm not sure what i'm gunna put on it yet, as I have yet to buy the bike but I was just asking in advance, thanks anyway.0

I have had a look, couldnt find my calipers, but I'd say there's about 8-10mm of clearance either side of the stock 2.1" schwalbe black jacks that come on it. So probably couldnt go much larger than the 2.35 highrollers, but for it's intended use as an XC bike that should suffice.
If you do decide to buy a Trail SL 5, I'd advise you take a look around and try to find a 2010 model as they have a vastly superior drivetrain, provided you dont mind colour, as I've only seen red ones still available, try paulscycles.co.uk
My brother decided not to get the 2010 model online as the shop he bought from gave him a discount on the 2011 and he wanted it in black.0 -
The website that I'm going to order the trail sl 5 off of is at quite a good price, with their discount it will cost me £359.10 so I'm definitely going to buy it, as it's a steal at that price, thanks again for the advice.0

That's an absolute bargain, gotta be the best bike I've seen for the money. Frame alone would cost a couple of hundred and is used on £1k + bikes.
Do you have any plans for upgrades at all, or you going to keep it as standard?
If you do, from experience, You may find the grips twist, as they arent lock-ons, so would be first change I'd make, if any atall.
The tyres will wear quite quickyl as theyre a softer compound, theyre also quite heavy wire-bead jobbies.
If you decide to change the saddle, common advice here is to go for the charge spoon. Don't do this, the saddle on the sl5 is identical in shape and padding, but with a slightly different cover, if anything it's better as it has no seams to cause irritation.0 -
I might upgrade later on possibly after xmas, when they'll be some bargains and I'll have some more money, I can get some tyres from edinburgh cycles as my mate can get me 40% off, lucky me! Again thanks for all the advice, much appreciated0

It's not. SL1 comes in (just) less than a grand, and the Flash frame (which is of similar geometry) is made of different alu (6069 IIRC without going and looking in the shed) and has a BB30 bb.
Having said that, it'll still be a good bike. Enjoy it.
