Struggling to work out what to buy for the Giant XTC 29er for winter. I'm running the Maxxis Aspen in summer/dry... but not a lot of tread.
Looked at the Rocket Rons... terrible reviews... even looked at the CST Critters on Ebay... but reviewed as terrible in wet...
So.. anything out there that doesn't cost as much as a small sports-car to buy and works in the muddy stuff ?

indeed... limited range of rubber... and VERY limited 'budget' rubber compared to 26'sSalsa Spearfish 29er

I have a Panaracer Rampage 2.35 on the front, and have just bought a Bontrager Mudx 2.0 for the rear. Slow on the road, but grippy in the mud and wet. Paid around £30 for each.
Tend to cost a little more than their 26" equivalents, but with 29ers becoming increasingly common, this is improving all the time.

Mud-X, but that is based on my 26" experience and knowing a few 29er riders that have used them with confidence.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

I hope you got the 29er version, that link is for the 26". Fear not, if you find yourself with a pair of 26" ones then I'll take them off you as I'm about to order some for the On-one!

I got mine from All Terrain Cycles. They stuck £4 on for a terrible delivery service, but came in less than £30.0

Looks like tyre manufacturers realise that 29ers are just a fashion thing that will die out in a couple of years when people get bored of bikes that don't steer very well & are sluggish to accelerate.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Enter the next Gorrick race and we'll see what's 'sluggish'

I have got some Mountain king's on mine, seem to be ace in the mud and roots, but i have no rock round here to try them on, mine are 2.4 flavour but i could of done with a 2.0 for the rear as its a bit big0
