Armadillo Issues

I am really FCUKED OFF :( I bought one of the above tyres about 2 months ago and have always run at good a PSI, I have recently picked up two visits from the PF but in all fairness these were large shards of glass from the road.

Tonight tho I had a lovely blow out, the wire had detached from the side wall of the tyre and cause a very large bang and quite a nasty shock when it did so. Is this normal for a tyre under two months? anyone heard of any issues with this happening on these tyres? Is there anything else i can do (as these are not cheap tyres) other than complain on here?

Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

By "good PSI" do you mean within the tolerances marked on the tyres, or above? I ran armadillos on the commuter for a couple of years and found them hardwearing but a bit on the harsh side ride-wise. Never had much in the way of punctures and certainly never a blow out. Now using Conti Gatorskins which I find more comfy and grippier in the wet.

2 months is no length of time. Could take back to the LBS and ask for a replacement?

unlucky - could be a poorly made tyre - guess you'll never know. As your man above says, you could take it back and ask for another . . .

Never rated armadillos in the wet either - no grip whatsoever.

Thanks for the replies, I always ran my PSI inbetween what was recommended on tyre walls eg PSI 80-100 i would rund about 90 as my rims do not recommed going over 100psi.

Will call into the LBS and see what they say luckily i had i had a spare tyre at home worn but will last a little while.

  • Sounds like a manufacturing fault.
Have been running my semislicks for 6 months with no problems (other than the uncomfortable ride and the fact that I had to turn the front tyre 'the wrong way' to prevent it spraying water directly into my face  )

I did a LEJOG on armadillos. Zero punctures for the whole 1100 miles. I use gatorskins now, I don't see a great deal of difference between the two tyres. Both are fairly decent for commuting/touring.

I had a similar issue with a one-off manufacturing fault on a different brand of OF resistant tyre.

I emailed.the manufacturers with photos (and name dropped this forum). New tyre arrived the next day along with a nice T shirt.

I destroyed an armadillo in a week, ripped side wall so could have been me that caused it but not used them since and not had any sidewall failures since, go figure!
