£500ish decathlon rockhopper 8.1 ?

Hi everyone
I am new to mountain biking and am looking to purchase a new bike with a budget of around £500.
I have been looking at the gt's and specialised bikes but have stumbled across the decathlon 8.1.
However, on the decathlon website it states "Restricted use :
not designed for: BMX, Dirt, downhill, free ride." I intend to use the bike for off road trail riding and maybe the odd jump here and there, some gentle road riding with the kids but mainly for off road trails.
Will this bike be any good for me? are there any alternatives with as good a spec that you would recomend? I could stretch to £550 if need be.

Excellent bike for the price and will do what you want fine.
Serious downhill bikes look like this - doubt you need one.
