I've bought a mongoose fireball 2011,i know it's not the best bike in the world but i wanted to start of with a basic bike just to see if i like the sport....The chap i bought it from said i could use it for MB'ing and that it's 14inch size frame would be good in the trails...I went out on it for the first time today on some local forest routes i know, the size was great and very nimble but im just over 6ft and it was really hard work to pedal after a while, even with the seat up...is this normal? should i just sacrafice the comfort for the fact it's nice and nimble or get a bigger size frame? If that's the case would i be able to swap all my parts from the mongoose onto the new frame ?
What would you recommend me ?

Thanks alot guys.

Sounds like it is too small. Whether you can swap the parts depends on the frame you have in mind, and fitments.
  • a 14" frame for a chap of over 6 foot??

I am just under six foot and have had 18" - 19" bikes. Sounds like it's far too small for you

Only way you will ensure all the parts fit the new frame is if you get a bigger size in the fireball.

Just googled it and its a street bike/jump bike so the frame will be smaller but 14" would be too small for most 6ft to ride for a long period.

To be honest, I would sell or PX for a hardtail something around 17-18" should be ideal. At the end of the day the cables etc will be too short so you will have to buy new ones and this will add up....

Flog it and get something that fits you.....oh and don't buy it from the muppet who sold you this one !

Jump bikes are not designed to sit down and pedal, so will never be much use for XC

  • I also have a 2011 specialized sport disc,it's 21 inches and feels like a boat through the twisties ....would buying a smaller specialized frame be feesable ? i know of a 17 inch hardrock pro.

You really need to sit on one, but might be a bit small.

starting with a mountain bike and not a jump bike might be a wise move.

No...a 19" would be a better size for somone just over 6ft.

I would sell both, take your wonga to a local dealer "actually sit on one" and decide what feels comfortable.
