Hi.
I am thinking of buying a Magicshine MJ-872 light. Just how good is the MJ-828 battery that comes with it, anyone had any experience of it?. Is it worth spending more and buying an open light system that comes with a longer guarantee and seems a better battery. The light with the 828 battery is £90, and on another site, the light with an open light system battery is £135. HELP PLEASE!!.

Depends on how long your night rides will last, if two hours is enough then I would go for the light from dealextreme for just over £90, be aware though it will take a week or so to come through and you will need a shaver plug.
I do not see getting an open light battery that gives the same run time, obviously if your going out for 2-3 hours then the upgrade is worth the money, or you could buy a standard spare battery.0 -
Hi.
I have had all the batteries except the new 5600 Samsung cell mj-6030 battery and found the mj-828 to be really good. Runtime just shy of the open light battery. Indestructible and the fuel gauge is good too. Tbh I'd get a spare 828. £21 each from best offer buy when I got my last batch.
Got one of the geoman replacement batteries too. Sadly its the worst one of the bunch runtime wise. FYI.
I'll keep you posted on availability of the mj-6030. Looks to be a worthwhile upgrade if the price is right.

I've got the latest 1600 lumen MJ-872, the light itself is the best value flood you can buy...
I use the MJ-872 on the bars and a chinese 1200 lumen spot (XML-T6) on my helmet, you seriously don't need anything more than this unless you plan on lighting up the entire forest.
As for battery life, I run the flood mostly at 25%-50% when using with the spot and when the going gets tougher ramp that up to 75% or 100% to see more of the bumps.... This is the best way to get the most from the light as you don't always need it at 75% or even 100% especially with a helmet mount.
MJ-872 running times (with supplied aluminium cased battery):
at 25% it will last about 4 hours
at 50% it will last about 3 hours
at 75% it will last just over 2 hours
at 100% it will last just under 2 hours
Not bad really, especially considering the brightness at 100%, the best place to buy them is from eBay rather than their official website, magicshine have set up an eBay account and they do warranty their products (a friend had a faulty lamp part after about 6 weeks of use that he exchanged with no questions asked).
£90 inc. P&P direct from magicshine....
