"You'll be shelling out upwards of £3,000 for a decent, Campagnolo-equipped carbon-fibre bike"

    Mine was half that.

They sound like the very worst kinds of MAMILS. Poncing around in Babington House (isnt it owned by Soho House?) drinking champagne, congratulating each other on finally giving up pills.

I guess it worked, but still there's something rather ironic about the phrase:
I'd become that most awful of yuppie clichés - an all-the-gear, no-idea loser. I decided to make a profound lifestyle change, dealing with the most important issue first: a new bike. Spending £3,000 on a new frame would prove to everyone I was serious.

This is a pretty terrible article, and I'm associated with it by being a fairly unfit person who wears lycra. Damnit.

I'm guessing that was a bit of self-deprecating humour, although judging by the tone of the rest of the piece I'm not 100% sure.

I thought it was quite funny. At least road cycling is becoming a mainstream activity - I'd rather be associated with ageing rockers with too much disposable income than hairy audaxers (probably - I need to think about that one :? )

I'm looking forward reading the comments from the usual anti-bike brigade who have just had their prejudices confirmed.

Rather than the usual pro-bike brigade winging on about the anit-bike brigade? :P

I'd imagine your average keeno-bike hater is more likely to read GQ than the evening standard.

Really? I wouldn't... unless they could help me pick up chicks.

What, that cyclists are a bunch of aging, self-indulgent, ex-hedonistic bell ends?

You think? ES/DM is about the level.

I think they'd be happy with just bell ends ;)

You think? ES seems a little more harmless.

Maybe I just think that because people haven't actually parted with their own cash to read that sh!t.

You're probably right about the content, but both publications share the same anti-bike trolling in the comments. I guess they just have popular comment sections and bile always finds a way!

Thanks for that. Some of it is quite cutting:
It contains all manner of NAHBS artisanal handmade bike porn, such as Felt:

    And Cannondale:

And of course the ultimate in custom handmade exotica, Trek:

    Ouch.
