... as I rode across a footpath level crossing without breaking pedal strokes, grasping one gate open with one hand, riding over the wooden boards, and nosing the other open with just enough of a push from my front wheel a couple of kids taking a break from BMXing were watching and shouted "HARD CORE!"

At my age simple pleasures are the only pleasures left...

    I'm old too, and I got shouted at twice this morning, by an old lady and a motorist.
