just saw the crash on youtube. really really sad news.

motorsport doesnt have a very good image at the moment with Dan Wheldon also.

    RIP Marco.

Thoughts are with your family and friends now
  • That was a nasty incident, he was a passenger under his own bike.

In perspective I still feel MotoGP is safer than many 2 and 4 wheel motorsports

    RIP Marco

That was a bad crash, two riders unable to avoid him and his helmets is knocked off his head. You can see Marco slidding down the track without his helmet on.

    +1.

Not a huge Moto GP fan but whenever I have watched it recently he was by far my favourite rider. Was literally speechless when I heard the news earlier, very sad day for the sport.

    RIP.

He was a prodigious talent and was just starting to learn the maturity that would have started winning him titles in the big league.

His spirit and style will not be forgotten in the sport.

As has been said above, a sad day for the sport.

    never heard of him.

amazing hair, amazing talent european 125 champ at the age of 15
  • I watched it this morning and got the light feeling in the pit of my stomach when I saw the helmet rolling onto the grass. I knew it was going to be a bad one.

I'll be a Rossi man until my dying day, but Marco brought a new excitement to a MotoGP paddock that had been becoming quite stale of late. He didn't win a GP and fell off a lot, but he always rode at 100%, every lap was a qualifier, every time, every race. He was like an Italian Colin McRae, he only had one way to ride - 'Flat out or bail out', and for that alone I'll miss him.

PS - His move on Pedrosa at Le Mans in May was totally legit in my book.

He was! He ruffled a few feathers this season with his 'no holds barred' riding style but brought a lot of excitement to this season!

I can't get all Lady Diana over it, as I didn't know the guy. It's a big loss for MotoGP though, the guy was a great character and a brave risk taking rider.

    dont be such a gaylord.

from what i can gather, none of these bleeding heart "look at how upset i am about someone i have never met" types have never met him nor will they ever have met him (if he hadnt died).

bike racing will carry on and in a day or so no one here will be thinking about him. I swear people love to be miserable mard-arses just for the fucking sympathy they hope to recieve:

It's a shame when stuff like this happens, it was horrible looking crash, the way the bikes went straight into him, but at the end of the day it is something that happens, albeit not regularly, in sports like this and the guys know what risks are involved.
  • i genuinely dont see why people get so upset about dead people they are in no way connected to.

Ah, so we're only allowed to feel upset at the death of someone we've actually met?

    Got it...

...so all these people who lined the streets of Wootton Basset were all just gaylords too?
The 3 million people who lined the streets of São Paulo for Ayrton Senna's funeral were in some way arseholes??

    Am I getting this correct?

leaving the debates to one side I'm gutted by the death of Simoncelli. He could have challenged for the title next year I'm sure...He was a bit wild but that's what made him so exciting to watch.

Feel gutted for his family and friends and also Edwards and Valentino.

Heard that Valentino may well retire after this.....

    Hope not

    i said "connected to"

id imagine the people lining the streets in wooton basset felt connected to their british armed forces fallen, a nation tends to be connected to it's military these days. Are you suggesting what a town full of people did for the families of over 300 dead servicemen and women is comparable to the bleatings of some crudders?

the people lining the streets for senna's funeral would have felt connected to a national sporting hero, he was extremely well known across the world of sport, not just motor racing due to his phenominal success. As far as i can tell this simoncelli fell off a lot and never won a race.

i might add the most important fact is that none of those people are bleating on about it in the crudcatcher.
Also, why are you allowed to be publicly upset yet im not allowed to be publicy not bothered?

I was sad to hear the news - he was a good rider who could have been great and didnt deserve to go out that way. Sorry for Edwards and Rossi who will always wonder if they could have done something different. Both guys close to retirement - this might be it for them.

I didn't know him but he came across as a nice enough guy and he certainly stirred things up - his riding style was exciting and I will miss watching him on the track.
