Just how many courses wil the unit hold transfering from the dashboard to the unit itself?

Mine will only hold two, is this correct?

  • There is no limit except memory... mine has 20-odd courses loaded, I have had over 100 at one time but its pretty slow to scroll through them so i tend to keep only the few I use regularly onboard. Most course files are around the 20 - 50kb size, leaving 80Mb available on the internal storage (I also have 2 versions of the OSM maps and the Garmin OS maps on the storage card).

If you find it won't load more than 2 course then its likely you have a corrupt course file... plug the unit into your PC and copy all the .FIT files off the Courses folder to the PC, then delete them from the Garmin. Then load up the new course file (copy GPX file to NewFiles, then unplug Garmin from PC and turn it on to convert the GPX to FIT and transfer it to the Courses folder). If that fails its not able to convert it from GPX to FIT or the FIT is being corrupted so go back and recreate the course on your mapping site of choice or try another site (it rarely fails on ridewithgps but mapmyride did produce some oddities for me, YMMV).

If it works then the chances are that one of the other FIT files has become corrupted, so plug the Garmin back into the PC, copy back one of the old course .FIT files to the Courses folder and try the unplug/restart again and then try to select the course. If it works, repeat until either they all work or one fails... thats the corrupted one so delete it and carry on until all files are reloaded.

    Hope that helps...
