35th anniversary of the first Repack run.
Interesting thread and some picks of the anniversary run here.
Some history for the kiddies.

I love it the "35th Anniversary Thanksgiving Klunk" is only for pre '97 bikes. should be for pre '90 at the youngest. '85 would be better."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

surely it hsould be for bikes made in the last 6 years so it can be an enjoyable ride?
or is it supposed to be a god awfull shake hands with danger?0 -
I would like to see what would happen if a load of DH'ers on new bikes did turn up and rip up the DH0

People were modifying bikes to ride them up and down mountains long before a bunch of hippies in San Francisco were even born.
They might have come up with the name but they certainly didnt invent mountain biking even Gary Fisher and Charlie Kelly never claimed to have invented MTBiking.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -

Charlie says they invented the sport of mountain biking though- ie, first competitive mtbing.
TBH I don't see it... I mean, I couldn't get down Repack in the times they could, never mind on a klunker but I just don't see it as a mountain bike race- it's a dirt road. Cyclocross has much more in common with modern mountain biking, and it's been around for 3 times as long. And since the oldest recorded bike races predate asphalt roads...
Think we've got to recognise the huge part they played in the start of mainstream, modern mountain biking though... And obviously the racing was one of the things that spurred that on so don't think you can say it wasn't important. I doubt I'd be mountain biking without them. So I'll raise a glass to the anniversary, even though it wasn't the birth of mountain biking, and say thanks fellers!Uncompromising extremist0 -
