Hi there

It's getting pretty nippy and I looking into getting a soft shell jacket - of some description. I've had a look on wiggle and chain (evans are a last resort as exspensive), but not very inspired. Any ideas?
Not altura preferably- I'm not very impressed with them, I had a pair of MTB shorts and the ''stick on'' vents came off after light use.
Under 90pound, 70 is more my price

Cheers

MC

The Gore Phantom is great and can sometimes be found in your price range.

Edit to say I've sold mine

  • Appreciate that the original poster has first dibs, but if he is not interested - could you confirm the size of the Gore Jacket (What chest size are you?) and how much you are looking for?
    Thanks

With a decent baselayer the Gore phantom windstopper jacket will happily keep you going down to +3' in winter. Really good lightweight and effective, also has removable arms which keeps it useful most of the year.

#1 Brompton S2L Raw Lacquer, Leather Mudflaps
    #2 Boeris Italia race steel
    #3 Scott CR1 SL
    #4 Trek 1.1 commuter
    #5 Peugeot Grand Tourer (Tandem)
  • I've got this and I think it's pretty good for the money:

  • hi

    Thanks for the advice

Would go for a phantom but sadly a but pricey.

Looks like Endura Windchill is on my shopping list when it comes into stock on CRC.

I know you said you don't like Altura kit, but one of the cycling monthly mags is offering a free Altura jacket with a subscription, so for an initial outlay of £23 for a 6 month sub you could get a free jacket :!:

    Just a thought

My Phantom II - a large (I thought it was XL) - is still for sale. Will post in classifieds when I have a pic

    Montane featherlite velo.

Just windproof, scrunches up to the size of an orange.

I wear it over my baselayer.

Not a bad call. I keep one in my belt bag - mostly for emergencies though.

  • I have one of these http://www.evanscycles.com/products/pea ... t-ec020123 and wear it most days with the sleeves zipped off. Only criticism is htat after 2 years the trim around one of the sleeves is coming off - probably after being repeatedly caught on my watch.
  • thanks for tip offs!

Still tempted by the endura...windchill I think it was....bit squeezed now though as am building second hand roady, so I might have to carry on with way too big raincoats and soggy jumpers for now...managed for 11 years sure another couple months won't kill me

I've got one of these and it's very very lightweight. I have bought a better jacket for winter, Endura Venturi 2 which looks very nice but not worn it yet.
