Hi

We are a group of Irish cyclists planning a trip from Dublin to Berlin in summer 2012

We intend to ferry to Liverpool, then cycle to Hull, ferry to Rotterdam and cycle from there to Berlin. We all have road bikes. Our group speed would be 25/30 kph.

Any advice on cycle routes would be appreciated. Are they suitable for road bikes at that kind of speed, or is there an alternative? Can you cycle on road, or must you use the paths?

Thank you in advance for any info :D

  • hi andy. welcome to the forum.

liverpool to hull could be a bit of a bugger, but if you look at the trans pennine trail, you could follow this route on road (the trail itself is not suitable for road bikes in most places)

howden to hull is on road and flat, local roads and the docks are easily accessable on cycle paths right from the city boundry. i am a tpt ranger and can offer as a guide if needed.

rotterdam has a dedicated cycle path from the port, but it is around 15k from the port and can get a bit smoggy as its next to the very busy and usually gridlocked port road.

how much of a differnce would it make if you went via brugge in belgium?
its a lot easier to navigate and is a much pleasenter ride to start the continental journey.

    anything else, just pm me.

    cheers,
    stu.
