I ride xc and my summer tyres are starting to lose traction as the mud returns. What is the best winter xc tyre available today?
Just ride.

What tyres are you using at the moment?

    My usual selections are:-

All Mountain - Ardent F, High Roller R in 2.3 or equivalent (I have an old Crossmark in 2.3 I use if it gets Super dry

    Summer XC - Aspen F, Crossmark R in 2.1
Autumn XC - ADvantage F, High Roller R in 2.1
    Mud - Bonty Mud-X

I ve moved from Snowdon Mountains to Dutch Sand dunes recently so I ve built up a wide collection of tyres

I've just changed my Maxxis Crossmarks for Panaracer Cinders, I've been using cinders for 2 years now and I've been very happy with them. Just got one replacement one from Evans, they've got the puncture resistant ones for £20 a tyre on the web

If you want to keep the weight down (for when it isn't plastered in mud!), I find nobby nics are alright through most of the winter conditions. To keep general wear and tear down I generally just chuck on whatever cheaper, harder wearing tractor tyres I happen to have kicking around, at the moment it's nevegals. Same last winter, reasonable if you play around with presures

Oh, the Maxxis Medusa's are supposed to be good alternatives to the Bonty's if you re a proper XC whippet

    This.
  • Supertacky swampthing 2.3, if you're fit.

I bought these for my Trek and found they tried to suck me into the centre of the earth. Now hoping the Advantages will become the the miracle that is the all-condition, all-season wonder tyre we all seek.

    Have Mud-x on the Rockhopper.

    Mud X.

Although saying that On One have cheap Dirty Dans at the moment, which look identical to a Mud X but weigh 150g less (and less than a Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph too). Same carcass as a Rocket Ron, so I'm not expecting good durability, but for a light winter tyre they look awesome.

Sadly my trails are still in about the best condition they've been, so I've not tried them!

I just got Some cheap Dirty Dans from On-One. They are guaranteed to be needed at Bedgebury sometime soon ! Will wait until the Nobby Nics are struggling in the gloop then change them over.
