Very expensive, but the Cinnamon Club is one the best Indian restaurants in London: http://www.cinnamonclub.com/
(If you can make it up to Soho, Maharini: http://www.maharanisoho.com/)0 -

Not been myself in ages and probably more 'upscale' than what you're looking for but it's in the right area and I remember it being very good.

CJ - be in interested to hear where you end up going. I work on Buckingham Palace Road and am always on the look out for new haunts. Sometimes go to the Cinnamon Club for breakfast, which is excellent value and muchly tasty.
As an aside, found an excellent burrito joint just behind Victoria Street today. Will be making many a return visit!0 -
Nice one, chaps. Cinnamon Club might be a bit beyond tonight's budget, but will check.
@Gussio - if not curry, where else would you recommend round there? I know Olivio Mare, and did wonder about the Thomas Cubitt.FCN 2-4.

Even further from where you want to go, but if you like fish, this Keralan restaurant just north of Oxford Street is superb: http://bit.ly/nUiLDv - two stops up the Victoria line to Oxford Circus from Victoria, and then a 10 minute walk.0

Veraswamy, just off regents street.
Don't get tempted by the Mango tree at victoria, its a far too much money for fairly standard thai style food.0 -

Oldest Indian restaurant in London. Never been there, but am always meaning to. Is it any good?0 -
The restaurant at the Mint Hotel is very good and not very expensive.

Its not bad. A solid B grade. Very good for taking out of towners for the novelty of going to the oldest indian in London.
Thinking about it Tamerind is also excellent and does a fine fixed priced Lunch.
I miss working in the west end0 -
Glasshouse Street just off Regent Street has about 10 to choose from.
Or better still, get up to Brick Lane.0 -

Nooooooo brick lane is rubbish these days.
Try the Bengal Clipper in Shad Thames http://www.bengalclipper.co.uk/
However 2 courses is more than £20 and Cinnamon Club have that offer on right now. You should be able to get a 6pm table too.--

Alright then. Massala in Cobham is very good indeed!
And it would only take you an hour and a half from Victoria to get there.0 -

You might find the Thomas Cubitt just as expensive as Cinnamon Club. Reasonable at lunchtime to sit downstairs, but the price rises when you go upstairs. Solid food though. Couple of weeks ago we ate there and had chilli squid for starters followed by steak tartare. Both excellent.
The Ebury St Wine Bar can be fun and the food at Boisedales is consistently good.0 -

Where's the burrito joint?0 -
If it's not too late Kundan on Horseferry Road is old and established and good for spotting MPs and other layabouts.0
-
Get the train from Victoria to Gatwick, Fly to Inverness (EasyJet or Flybe) train to Dingwall and visit Cafe India. You wont be disappointed.
Hang the cost- live the experience.

Picante on Greencoat Row. It has been there for just over a year. The queue on Friday lunchtime is a thing to behold. Thoroughly recommended!

Excellent! I'll remember that one. Cheers.
Turns out there's one on VB Road, about 100 yards down from the lights on the right. I need to get out more...FCN 2-4.
