hi i normaly do XC and single track mountain biking at weekends around Llandegla forrest or Delamere on my Full suspension mountain bike. but getting out and riding is getting less over time due to famly and work commitments so i was thinking of riding to work to keep fit but i work nights starting around midnight and finnishing 8am. work is about 7 miles away from my home and most the the roads are lit by street lights except one road which is not for about 1.5 miles. i need advise on the legal must haves on lighting and reflectors. most of my riding gear has reflecting strips on them like my back pack and jacket .im looking into getting some over trouses with the same strips on aswell.
my commute home will be along the canal tow path which is slighty longer
I want to get back in shape for hitting the down hills and climbs at Llandegla
any help will be greatfully welcome
cheers Sutty

Some guidance on lights etc

You can pretty much ignore the references to reflectors though. Technically they're required, but in reality...
I'd definitely recommend combining lights with reflective clothing. Make yourself as visible as possible.
Not sure of your budget, but I use these. They're very bright - ideal for commuting - and the batteries last ages: http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=12483&categoryID=1080
