Marin B17 back from the dead

Hi,

I recently got my 2008 Marin B17 back from the police after they found it at a scumbag's house and tracked me down.

Unfortunately it seems that whoever stole it stripped all the parts off it and replaced them with rubbish before giving it to his mate. On the plus side the frame seems to be in immaculate condition.

My question is would I be best off cutting my losses and trying to sell the frame or spending a bit of cash getting it back to a half decent quality. I have a 2010 B17 now so was thinking about setting it up as a funky hybrid that would suit me more for commuting on.

Any advice would be appreciated as I know little about bikes other than riding them.

You could spend £500 on new parts but only add £250 in value. I'd strip and sell, or sell as is.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Do you think I'd get much for just the frame? As it is I'd say the parts on it are worthless.

keep it as a hack bike.....

No idea what one of those is but I'm either going to spend a couple of hundred quid on 2nd hand parts and get it up and running or flog the frame. If I leave it lying around for long it'll just get forgotten.

Have a look on ebay and choose completed listings. Guess frame around £50-80.

Would make a nice hack bike. If in no hurry you can build it up cheap or just replace the crap parts when needed.

Is it? I use my hack bike for more than that. Depends on your definition. Mine would be a bike that is less valuable so you dont have to be so precious about it.

remove all the marin stickers

insert single speed kit, and buy bits and bobs from ebay

not in flash colours, but nice bits and again remove all the stickers

no one will give it a second look as it will look stolen.........
